- Throughout history, many prophecies and figures like Liu Bowen and the Oracle of Delphi, who claim to see the future, influence powerful nations; predicting the future remains either an inherited trait or a learned skill; this ability exists as a rare gift for a select few or a capacity accessible to everyone who opens their mind.
- Islands emerge from ocean waves across the planet; while differing in size, shape and distance from mainlands, certain islands contain forbidden curses, dangerous creatures and long-lost treasures; island locales reveal facts about former inhabitants and remaining artifacts; tragedy and misfortune follow occupants of a once opulent seaside villa; an island off the coast of Japan provides evidence of a lost civilization.
- What does it mean when a certain location or mysterious object is referred to as "cursed"? Is it simply a creation of the human imagination mixed with myth, legends, and stories used to explain the common fears inside of us? Perhaps certain areas really are haunted or contain some dark energy emanating from a violent event in the past. Can possessing a dazzling diamond cause those who hold it to suffer misfortune, tragedy and death?
- Organized criminal enterprises influence society from the shadows, creating dangerous threats; a life of crime involves complex internal dynamics; the Cosa Nostra crime family continues operating in New York City today; double agents infiltrate governments to influence global affairs through covert actions.
- Over the centuries, the night sky sparks wonder about existence and humanity's place in the universe. A quick flash and flaming tail mark a falling meteor. These conglomerations of cosmic matter originate from outer space. Interstellar travelers may contain healing properties or carry an ancient pathogen capable of ending human civilization.
- Over the centuries, there are certain objects of power that rise above all the rest. Whether it's the mystery of their creation, or the effects they have on those in contact with them, their impact on the world is striking. For example, can the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls not only change what we know about world history and Biblical canon, but lead to the legendary lost treasure of King Solomon? And how did the ancient Greeks construct a device from 2,000 years ago?
- Twisting rivers, large lakes and massive oceans cover most of the planet; for centuries, people have wondered about activity deep beneath the surface; as technology advances, humanity pushes farther into deep ocean waters, mapping and uncovering new species and biomes; this interest in global waters raises new inquiries regarding cursed man-made lakes and isolated future discoveries beneath Antarctic ice.
- We've all wondered about mysterious societies that operate in the shadows, holding the potential to shape our daily lives. But is the massive reach of these shadowy groups a fabrication—an easy target for people to assign blame—or something much more real? Are the interests of the many truly controlled by the select few? It is an unnerving thought that unaccountable, unseen forces are actively steering our lives, potentially for the worse.
- There are countless stories about hidden jewels, confiscated coins and priceless artifacts that remain tantalizingly elusive and hidden from view; but there is evidence that some of these accounts are not tall tales at all, but rather open-ended quests just waiting to be solved; will lost gold buried in the tumultuous days of the American Civil War ever be found? And could the opulent city of Xanadu described in the travels of Marco Polo exist in the jungles of Asia?
- Cultures all around the world participate in unique practices known as rituals, often involving prayer, singing, dancing and sacred artifacts; while some are meant to unite a society or honor a certain god, the true purpose of others remains a mystery; can an ancient technique performed in India extend the human lifespan? And what kind of trials does it take to become an assassin?
- The pursuit of knowledge and understanding is a lifelong endeavor as society moves forward. We continue to push boundaries, test new ideas and ask new questions about what's possible. But is there a line where this noble scientific pursuit becomes something strange, unconventional—or even dangerous? What causes a controlled experiment to go horribly wrong?
