—"The Zoo: San Diego" provides a behind the scenes look at the daily lives of various species of animals and the teams that care for them. Featuring two parks, the San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, as well as the San Diego Zoo Institute for Conservation Research, San Diego Zoo Global is home to more than 700 species and 6,500 animals. A wide range of animals are introduced, including pandas, giraffes, Galapagos tortoises, koalas, elephants, mountain lions, two baby cheetahs that are learning how to be ambassadors for their species and a flock of ostriches known as the "Spice Girls." Besides the animals, the keepers and veterinarians at both the Zoo and the Safari Park -- many of whom have dedicated their lives to caring for animals, discuss what it's like to be a part of this world-renowned zoo.

Season 19 of 11 Episodes

  • A baby klipspringer is born on one of the coldest nights of the season and is miraculously nursed back to health; the California condor team at the Safari Park goes to unbelievable lengths to save this highly endangered species.

  • Hunter the koala is ready for a mate; Jaws the Galápagos tortoise isn't feeling well, and the zoo staff works to bring him out of his shell; the Safari Park has two baby giraffe calves that need to be hand-reared simultaneously.

  • There will be no peace in the world for the hamadryas baboons until Impo finds his mate, but the San Diego zookeepers have a plan. Two young cheetah cubs are training to become animal ambassadors with the help of their experienced canine guide.

  • Safari Park keepers prepare Aria the rambunctious black rhino for her new life on the open African Plains exhibit; zoo staff cares for 15-year-old legend M'bari the lion and his mate, Etosha; a vulture chick learns to eat from a surrogate puppet.
